Office moves are rarely the joyous occasions we expect. reality didn?t quite live up to the imagination and glorious expectation.

Planning, Preparing, Predicting all lead to something. These three actions build to a plateau that either works (good execution) or doesn?t work (poor execution). ?I have moved offices and home often enough to confirm my stance on preparation. ?It doesn?t matter how much you plan or prepare, if you fail to implement, it is?all for naught.

Execution is putting a plan into action by applying power to accomplish the mission and using situational understanding to assess progress and make execution and adjustment decisions.?

Translating decisions into actions.

It all sounds very Sun Tzu, doesn?t it? The Art of War has been applied to business for years and the truth is, Business is War. The war to win clients/customers. The battle to stay at the top of your game. The hostilities that competition brings out and ultimately defines the true warrior. The inner struggle to change the way you do things when the old ways no longer work. The Art of War in action,?indeed.

Three Points defined in the information I learned -?use them how you will and so will I

? Seize and retain the initiative.
? Build and maintain momentum.
? Exploit success.

Each of these three can be specifically applied to your work day and if carried out will lead to further success.
~It isn?t enough?to name a course of action.
~It isn?t enough?to plan that course of action.

Only when you Execute and Carry Out the Plan/Action?will there be a success to exploit and share with others. Dominance in any field comes only through the following steps; whether you provide a service or build a product,?plan and follow through.?

1. Develop a course of action.
2. Refine and validate the course of action
3. Implement.

?Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this:? to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.? Today I wanted to write a post about staying at home.? You know, the euphemism kind of ?staying at home,? which simply means that you?ve got kids and you don?t send them to daycare.? I sure wish we could come up with a different euphemism, seeing as how I ?stay at home? but am hardly ever, no never, at home.? Oh well. I wanted to write a blog post about GRACE.? Grace for moms who stay at home, but more pointedly, grace for moms who don?t.? I?ve been super convicted lately that way too many mommas who ?work outside of the home? (another insufficient euphemism) feel awfully judged and guilty and jealous and straight-up condemned, inadvertently or not by those of us who haven?t held a job since giving birth.? And vice versa, believe it or not.? Vice versa, indeed. Grace for moms who don?t stay at home.? And grace for moms who do. But this isn?t a post about staying at home or not staying at home.? It is, however, most definitely a post about GRACE. You see, a long time ago when I asked the Lord if He wanted me to stay at home with our imaginary kids (they?re real now; then they weren?t), He said, YES.? I heard Him plain as day, and so did Dan. But lately, I?ve asked Him another question that reminds me so so much of that one.? I guess that?s why I have been ever-so-surprised to hear Him answer, this time, NO. The question?? If He wants us to adopt. What I?m about to say, I find it painfully hard to type out, much less publish for others to read.? You see, for a while, I was convinced that EVERY Christian family MUST adopt.? I can quote you the statistics.? Suffice it to say, that would SOLVE the orphan epidemic, at least numerically. So what does one do when they believe that every Christian family should adopt, but they haven?t adopted?? And they pray like crazy about it, but they start to sense that, for one reason or another, their family isn?t going to?? At least not today? I don?t know what one does.? But my guess is they either change what they believe, or live in condemnation. So here goes nothin:? ?God does not call every Christian family to adopt.?? There.? I said it.?? And get this:? The second line to that statement is not, ?Only the obedient and cool ones.? If you or I are searching for whether or not God is leading us to adopt, (or to stay at home, or anything else, for that matter), one very simple litmus test can go a long way in helping us sort that out:? Is the feeling motivating you to do it, condemnation?? In other words, do you feel guilty or shameful or bad about yourself when you consider the other alternative (not adopting, not staying-at-home)?? ?? no one who takes refuge in Him will be condemned.? ?Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus?? God simply does NOT condemn.? If it is condemnation you are feeling, it is not from Him.? If you are trying to sort out if the desire to adopt is from Him, if it reeks of condemnation, it has an altogether different source.? Let?s clear up one thing for sure:? Holy Spirit conviction does not resemble Satanic condemnation.? And allow me to say one thing more:? Neither does Holy Spirit conviction resemble human pressure. No, Satan most certainly does not want an orphan to be rescued? But it might be worth it to him if he could make me forfeit my freedom in Christ to the enslavement of condemnation, AND make me push past the leadership of the Holy Spirit working in my spouse to the destruction of our relationship.? (The very relationship that shows the world ? earth and heavenlies included ? a picture of the mysterious unfailing love Jesus Christ has for His Bride, the church.) I am not ready to say that the Reeves family will never adopt.? My heart yearns to almost every day.? We can meet for coffee and I?ll tell you all the reasons why.? But I will also tell you all the reasons why I believe wholeheartedly He has spoken over me, No.? Or at least, Not today. Here in this place of the No.? And I will not spend my time here waddling in the mud of condemnation and guilt and shame. For heavens sake, the place of the No is an open field! There are so many places to go All sprouting forth from the free soil in the hands of our Loving Father who adopted us as dearly loved daughters and sons for life by His own blood. There is just no telling what He might do.? For orphans.? Though us.? Whom He has told, No. If you sense He is telling you to adopt, and it is in unity with your spouse (if you have one), by all means do not hesitate!? GO!? You can do it!? Put a little Holy Spirit power to it!? (Read: That was a joke. I was a cheerleader and enjoy self-deprecating humor.) But all joking aside, for those of us who do not sense Him telling us to adopt (at least not today), let?s embrace the open field of the No.? Explore ALL the possibilities of ways to live out James 1:27.? Start by picking up some pom-poms and cheering our hearts out for those who are adopting!? NOT avoiding them when we see them at Target because they make us feel guilty.? Ouch. If you don?t know what to do, I invite you to get to know my friends at Families Outreach, or other non-profit orphan care ministries like them.? Let?s not confuse God?s direction not to adopt, with Him saying not to do anything.? Not sensing God?s leadership to adopt (at least not today) has left me feeling condemned and shameful at worst, helpless and useless at best.? But I can?t get out of my head something that Chris Caine said at Passion this past year:? In regards to human trafficking, a cause for which Chris has given over her entire life, she charged all of us listening with more passion than I?ve ever heard her speak (and that is saying A LOT), to do one thing:? PRAY.? Whether you sit reading this with seven adopted sons and daughters playing at your feet, Or you sit alone today wishing a spouse would share your heart?s desire, Or you sit at peace with your place in the open field of the No, Or you sit in a puddle of tears over the pain of infertility, Or you sit confused and broken over financial limitations, You don?t have to pray that God would call you to adopt.? He will take care of that if He so chooses. Chances are, if you?re so inclined to it that you?re asking Him to call you to do it, He already has. WASHINGTON (AP) ? AIDS is graying. By the end of the decade, the government estimates, more than half of Americans living with HIV will be over 50. Even in developing countries, more people with the AIDS virus are surviving to middle age and beyond.

That's good news ? but it's also a challenge. There's growing evidence that people who have spent decades battling the virus may be aging prematurely. At the International AIDS Conference this week, numerous studies are examining how heart disease, thinning bones and a list of other health problems typically seen in the senior years seem to hit many people with HIV when they're only in their 50s.

"I'm 54, but I feel older," said Carolyn Massey of Laurel, Md., who has lived with HIV for nearly 20 years.

"When I hear young people talk about, 'Well you get HIV and you take your drugs and you'll be all right' ? that's just not the truth," she said. "This is a lifelong thing we're talking about, and it unfolds every day on you."

The graying isn't just because people like Massey are surviving longer. Some of it comes from older adults being newly diagnosed, a trend U.S. health officials say is small but slowly growing. Yes, grandparents still have sex ? and that's an age group missed by all those hip safe-sex messages aimed at teens and 20-somethings.

"They let down their guard," is how Dr. Kevin Fenton of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention puts it.

Already, a third of the nearly 1.2 million people living with HIV in the U.S. are over 50, and by 2020 half will be, Fenton said at one of numerous sessions on aging at the world's largest AIDS meeting.

People 50 or older accounted for 17 percent of new HIV diagnoses in 2009, according to the CDC's latest data. That's up from 13 percent in 2001.

There aren't as good counts in poor regions of the world, where access to life-saving medications came years later than in developed countries.

But even in hard-hit sub-Saharan Africa, home to most of world's HIV-infected population, studies suggest 3 million people living with HIV are 50-plus, said Dr. Joel Negin of the University of Sydney in Australia. By 2040, he said, that could reach 9 million.

There, challenges are different. Ruth Waryaro of Kenya, addressing the conference on her 65th birthday, said clinic workers hassle her when she goes to pick up her monthly supply of medication ? not believing a grandmother really needs it.

"If you're not strong enough, you just leave the medication and go home," said Waryaro, who raised four children of her own and now is raising four AIDS orphans. She also has diabetes and high blood pressure.

As Negin pointedly told the conference, "50 is not old." But for years, world health authorities didn't even measure HIV in people beyond age 49.

Today, people who are diagnosed and treated early can expect a near-normal life-span, Dr. Anthony Fauci, infectious disease chief at the National Institutes of Health, told The Associated Press.

The new focus is on what these pioneering survivors can expect as they reach their 50s, 60s and beyond. They're now getting chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and osteoporosis ? some of the common ailments when anyone gets old. But studies suggest people with HIV may be at higher risk for some of those illnesses, or get them earlier than usual.

"It's almost created a new subspecialty of medicine," Fauci said.

Perhaps the strongest evidence links HIV and an increased risk of heart disease. Some AIDS medications raise that risk. But in research published for the AIDS meeting, scientists at Massachusetts General Hospital uncovered another reason.

They scanned the arteries of people with and without HIV, and found the HIV patients had more inflammation inside their arteries, putting them at risk for the kind of clots that trigger heart attacks. That's even though the HIV patients had their virus well-controlled and weren't that old ? their average age was 52, the researchers reported in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

HIV triggers body-wide inflammation as a person's immune system tries to fight the virus, a process that persists and can quietly damage organs even with good medications, CDC's Fenton said.

HIV is not acting in a vacuum, said Dr. Amy Justice of Yale University, noting that people's histories of smoking, for example, also contribute to inflammation.

But she pointed to data from a Veterans Affairs study that said older people with HIV use more medications for other diseases than HIV-free patients the same age.

At the conference, some older people with HIV lined up to have their photographs made and their personal histories recorded, part of a Web project called "The Graying of AIDS."

It's a chance to be counted, and share knowledge.

"We're so concerned about the youth factor, we forget about the people who've brought us thus far," said Massey, the Maryland woman, who leads an HIV group called Older Women Embracing Life and works with churches to raise HIV awareness.

CDC's Fenton noted that those voices can help other older adults realize they're at risk, when they're getting back onto the dating scene after years of monogamous relationships. Older people don't use condoms as much as younger people.

"We still have this huge issue with stigma so thick you can cut it with a knife," says Massey, who also wants HIV testing to become a routine part of health check-ups. "We have to normalize the conversation."

Arizonans in 1912, like those today, enjoyed a wide variety of leisure activities. In the early 1900s hunting and fishing were popular not just as recreation but many times supplementing the family?s food budget. id="2">

As Arizona became a state new hunting regulations were put in place. Rodeo events and horse races were held among the ranchers. Professional baseball was followed in the newspapers. id="3">

There were 16 Major League teams then, none of them west of St. Louis and none of them with an African American player. The mining camps organized baseball, and other sports teams and would play games against nearby mines. id="4">

There was no NFL but college football was followed and the new universities in Arizona had formed teams. With only a few college teams nearby, the University of Arizona and Tempe Normal would play high school and club teams in the different sports. Football clubs were also formed by some of the engineers at the mines that had played football in college. id="5">

The National Basketball Association was still a long way away. Basketball as a college sport was not popular yet. Colleges would play high school, club, military and Y.M.C.A. teams. Jack Johnson the first African-American Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World was being pursued around the country by the Federal government for violation of the Mann Act (the transportation of a woman across state lines for immoral purposes). id="6">

For those of you who are staring a layoff in the face, or if you want to be prepared for a possible separation of employment in your next position, I'd like to add my advice on negotiating a severance package. And yes, this is something you can negotiate. As career strategist and job search coach, and I've helped dozens of clients successfully negotiate severance packages.  

 I advise my clients to use many of the same tactics as you would in a salary negotiation.

First of all, you need to have clear in your mind what you want, and what's important to you. For example, if paid health insurance is a must, make that your priority.

Secondly, throughout the process, you want to be genuine and sincere in discussing severance agreements, not cold and calculating. You will get a lot further that way. I understand you most likely angry - ok, furious - and hurt, but don't let that get in the way of making the best out of a decidedly awful situation.

Next, use vulnerability to your advantage; it can be very powerful. Describe your financial situation to the employer, and the personal difficulties this separation will cause. You will find that when you use this strategy, it plays to your employer's desire to make you happy - and dare I say - their guilt over letting you go. For instance, "I do have some impending financial needs... Perhaps the company could approve a slightly higher package. Is there any way we can pursue this together?" Or, "Can you see your way clear to adding 3 more months to the severance agreement? That would easy my family situation immensely."

Also, in negotiating, it's a great rule of thumb to use questioning, rather than demanding, in your discussions. You will find the most persuasive negotiators use questions. It will allow you to gain control of the situation by getting valuable information from the employer. For example, you wouldn't say, "That severance wouldn't be any good for me." Instead, you might say, "Robert, could you tell me how you think this can work for me?" Or, "Is there a chance you could extend the length of the severance (or the health benefits) a little longer?"

In both of these examples, see how there are only questions - no demands. By inviting your soon-to-be-former employer to explore the situation, you are giving them the freedom to reach their own conclusions on whether or not their separation offer is unreasonable. With this approach, you come across as sincere, realistic, and slightly vulnerable; never as cold or calculating, or as an employee who is "forcing their hand."

And there's one last piece of advice I'd like to offer: When you do find a new job, by all means negotiate your "exit strategy" before signing an employment contract. I advise negotiating for at least 6 month's severance (and 12 months for six figure professionals), including benefits. It's much easier to get a fair separation agreement when the employer is excited about hiring you than it is when things go south and they're put in a position where they have to let you go. And make that separation clause be effective due to any change in your job, and not just a lessening of responsibilities or a lay off. In other words, there might be a company reorganization, and yes, you can still have your same position, but you'll have to do it in Detroit. If you don't want to move, you should be able to receive the severance you negotiated at the start of your employment.

 In my experience, I have found my clients have been able to easily negotiate 1 to 3 months more in compensation, or a 10-15% higher increase during the severance term using these techniques. I've also found that my higher paid clients and those in higher positions in the company have an easier time negotiating the terms of their severance packages.However, I've seen these techniques work successfully at all career levels.

With whatever position you're leaving, it is always best to gain as much control of your situation as possible. It will not only serve you financially, but emotionally as well. Most people don't know they have any influence in a severance package once they're laid off, especially when feeling devastated about the loss of their job. However, you may find a few brief conversations with your employer will pay off great dividends.
