Coffman says he won?t be chair of Hawaii House energy committee

State Rep. Denny Coffman said Thursday that he will not serve as chairman of the House Committee on Energy & Environmental Protection, a post he has held since 2011, during the 2013 legislative session.

Sources, including Coffman, told PBN that state Rep. Chris Lee, D-Kailua-Waimanalo, is in line to take the position.

Coffman, D-Kailua-Kona-Naalehu, who had served as the vice chairman of the Energy & Environmental Protection committee since 2009, had been serving as chairman in an acting capacity since the previous chair, former state Rep. Hermina Morita, resigned to become chairwoman of the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission.

He told the Hawaii Energy Policy Forum, held Thursday at the state Capitol, that he will remain as a member of the committee.

Lee is also a member of the committee.

Meantime, state Sen. Mike Gabbard, D-Kapolei-Waipahu, is staying on for his fifth year as chairman of the committee on Energy and Environment.
